Yesterday I posted (as notes) parts from each Ulysses episode that come first to mind. It was quite a bit of work, but it made me happy. I was about to give it up in the middle, but I continued because I realized I really need to start seeing things through. I’m posting the entire thread as a single post so that it is more permanent and so that I can enjoy a free post on some other writer’s back.

I could spend a few paragraphs here writing about the book and listing its unlistable list of merits, but I’ll skip that. I’ll someday write an entire post about Joyce, who’s probably the writerest writer ever. Also the artistest artist ever. Dubliners and Ulysses are two of the greatest books I’ve ever read. Ulysses is the bookest book I’ve ever read.

Obviously this one is tough because the whole thing is amazing.

Once again I am floored at how absolutely great this book is.

Or is it the volume is equal to the weight? It’s a law something like that. Vance in High school cracking his fingerjoints, teaching. The college curriculum. Cracking curriculum. What is weight really when you say the weight? Thirtytwo feet per second per second. Law of falling bodies: per second per second. They all fall to the ground. The earth. It’s the force of gravity of the earth is the weight.”
I’ll have to do this every year so that I get to quote the entire book by the 80th year of doing this.
Hades:
If you ever wondered where Knausgaard got that idea about the heart having it easy, look no further:

This episode is the hardest to have patience with.
